Are you – or someone you know – working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award and looking for a meaningful way to complete the volunteering or community service section?

Steamship Freshspring, moored on Bideford Quay, is proud to offer local students the chance to volunteer aboard our historic ship and gain valuable experience along the way.

What’s Involved?

As a volunteer steward, participants will:

  • Welcome visitors onboard
  • Share a brief introduction to the ship’s history and purpose
  • Collect basic visitor information (such as postcodes)
  • Assist with selling merchandise and receiving donations
  • Help ensure a safe, enjoyable visit for everyone

This is a great way to build confidence, gain communication and customer service skills, and support a local heritage charity.

When Can You Volunteer?

πŸ“… We’re open every Sunday from April to September, and volunteers can choose from:

Morning shifts: 11:00 am – 1:30 pm

Afternoon shifts: 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm

We’re happy to work around school, college, and family commitments – even occasional help is appreciated!

How to Get Involved
