Why Volunteer with Us
Volunteering with the Steamship Freshspring Trust is a rewarding way to help preserve maritime heritage, learn new skills, and join a friendly, like-minded community.
Whether you’re interested in welcoming visitors, sharing stories, working on restoration, helping at events, or supporting behind the scenes, there’s a place for you on board.
What You Can Do
We have volunteer roles to suit everyone — from education and admin to maintenance, fundraising, ship visits, and community events.
Maintenance & Restoration
Join our Wednesday working days to help keep SS Freshspring shipshape — tasks include painting, general upkeep, and servicing machinery.
Ship Visits & Events
From April to September, our volunteer stewards welcome visitors every Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. Many stewards dedicate just three hours, either in the morning or the afternoon, to chatting with visitors from near and far. Stewards also assist with school visits and local fairs, such as those in Bideford and Northam, bringing Freshspring’s story to life in the community.
How to Get Involved
You can give as much or as little time as you like.
Please complete our expression of interest form below, and one of our friendly team members will be in touch to discuss further.
Every volunteer helps keep Freshspring’s story alive — and inspires future generations to get involved too.
