Built in Germany in 1958, the MS Oldenburg began her life as a Frisian Island ferry, serving communities along the German coast. Today, she plays a vital role as the ferry carrying passengers and supplies to and from Lundy Island.
In this special talk, John Puddy will trace the ship’s fascinating journey: from her early years in northern Europe, to her acquisition by Lundy, her extensive conversion in Bideford, and her continuing service to the present day.
About the Speaker
John Puddy is renowned for his dedication to preserving Britain’s maritime heritage. The Society for Nautical Research awarded him the Victory Medal in recognition of his exceptional work, particularly for saving SS Freshspring.
