Gangway work ashore

Work ashore has been progressing with the fabrication of a raised structure to sit on the aft deck of Freshspring, onto which the gangway can attach. Due to how the ship moves around with the tide, we need to make sure the gangway can move around also, without damaging the quay or the ship. To enable this, the upper part of the structure has a central swivel and the gangway will also be able to pivot up and down about a point on the end of this upper plate. Opposite the gangway are steps leading down the structure, onto a set of removable steps (not shown in the picture below) The handrails and lower tread still need to be fitted. Thanks to Bill Parker for the use of his facilities at The Flour Mill.
